Seahorse Ventures has been operating the popular Horse-Drawn Trolley Tour in Ketchikan since 1988. Drawing on more than 60 years of experience with horses and mules, the company was founded by long time resident John Allen, who with his wife Gloria, operated the business that became a Ketchikan tradition. Gloria has continued to operate the business since John's death in 2003. Sales of the Living History and Cultural Tour by horse-drawn trolley have increased in each of the nineteen years of operation, during which an accident free record has been maintained. Each trolley is drawn by a team of magnificent Belgian Draft horses. The slow paced gait of the horses allows the trolley guides to draw guests attention to places of historic, civic, and Alaska Native cultural interest, and to give an in-depth narration. Photo opportunities from the trolleys are excellent.
All trolleys have removable windows, which are installed in the event
of rain. A trained Alaskan Husky dog accompanies the driver and tour guide
on each trolley. |
